Battlestar Galactica - Deadlines

So this post may seem a little out of place, last time I posted about BSG here I had only watched the first bit of the first season. But with the hugely long break in my blog I am now watching the most recent episodes, which depending on your naming convention are either the first bit of season 5 or the second half of season 4.

I have to say it's been absolutley fantastic TV almost the whole way through and I have enjoyed it immensely. Though it does upset me every time they kill off a character I like or turn them into a Cylon. I think something that has really helped BSG, which lost it's way at times in seasons 2 and 3 I felt, is having a concrete ending point. It's also benefited Lost as well, which I may post about in the near future too. And it seems to my that the sense of urgency in the narrative and the drive to progress the story is certainly enhanced by the production's staff feeling of running out of time. It's something that Scrubs really could have used at times over the last two seasons.

One of the recent episodes, 4x12 did feel a bit like filler, but the following two about the attempted mutiny were both great. With only half a dozen episodes left it'll be really interesting to see where they go with it next. I thought Gaeta was really interesting as well and I'll be sorry to see him go, they managed to keep him sympathetic whilst he became a villain, and I felt you could sense his moral quandray and the way he felt he had to keep going even when he found things distasteful. Still, we're heading towards an ending, so a willingness to kill off characters isn't unprecedented. I hope it doesn't continue too rapidly though, I've still got my fingers crossed for a happy ending.
