Case 5: Mission Prologue

The warmest months are approaching and the Season of Wood has been particularly busy for most of you, with a new round of promotions and movements sending their inevitable ripples through the Five-Score Fellowship and parts of the Celestial Bureaucracy. Even now, nearly four months after Ennico’s little showpiece on the steps of the Hall of Censors, folk are still talking… The gossip mills are still rolling and opinions in many quarters are somewhat polarised on the rather sudden dethroning of a directional censor. And as ever, you have the slightly disconcerting feeling that the vocal ones are probably the least of your concerns.

In the wake of Luisa Seragon’s rapid elevation, there has been wholesale change at the Office of the Southern Censor, both at the Terrestrial and Celestial levels. Of particular interest is that Cathak Faux-Kaminer and Diamond-Edge Negotiator appear to have disappeared completely. The obvious display of efficiency shown by the Commission for Terrestrial Affairs has led to it being swamped with new applications for concerns to be investigated and grievances being lodged. All five Commissioners are not exactly appreciative of the increased workload and grumbles are starting to reach Ennico’s ears… And then, shortly after Wong Bongerok’s appeal is declined, a pronouncement is made stating that the fire dragon has been appointed to the Bureau of Seasons in the role of Western Overseer of Volcanic Interactions at the Division of Water.

So life proceeds at its usual hectic pace for your kind. In the middle of Descending Wood, Shroud adds a new researcher to S/PI’s payroll, a middle-aged God-Blood named Shadowed Emerald Eyes.

And in the last week of Descending Wood, Ennico’s patience wears a little thin and he seizes on something to get away from behind his desk. Rhodochrystos, the Senior Adjutant of the Commission, was going through the week’s stack of declinatures and casually remarked on a request that had been thrown out by the Central Commissioner’s office, except the decline was also marked “For the immediate attention of Wood & Blossom Colt” and appeared to have been misfiled…

Taking it and reading between the lines of the very flowery language, it seems to indicate harassment by a pair of Exalts of a small god in the western Blessed Isle… one of whom seemed to be a Journeys Sidereal by the name of Tomal… not a name you are familiar with. So you decide to investigate this further…

Meanwhile, Takezo receives notice of being appointed chair of an ad hoc mediation panel to which his Joybringer companions have also been assigned. But to have three Viziers assigned to what should be a routine dispute arbitration panel seems most odd, especially given it seems to concern the astrological affairs of a minor Southern border town.
